貴 - Precious
To keep something truly Precious safe, the Japanese once placed a pot lid over a hidden mouth, entrance that led to their treasure of shellfish, prized in ancient times as money and jewels. Even today, the kanji reflects that sense of guarded wealth, as if every coin were a delicate shell kept under lock and key.
