誌 - Document
To create a Document in old Japan, a scribe would first speak (Say, Words) aloud his oath of Intention, since written works were seen as mirrors of the heart. This is why '誌' came to mean a record or chronicle—words bound by intention, much like the earliest literary magazines in Meiji Japan that called themselves 'shishi' (志誌).
