小 - Small
A tiny samurai sharpens his barb spear-so small it jingles like a bell.
Beside him, the great number Eight splits apart like festival fans (suehirogari), opening wide for luck.
Together they form 小 (small): three little strokes like grains of sand, whispering chi-chi-chi as in chiisai (“tiny”).
Think of kokeshi dolls lined up at a stall-miniature, painted, small but unforgettable.
