At the summer Gion festival, a dancer stomps the Soil so hard the ground trembles-boom, like a taiko drum’s “カン!”.
From above, a giant paper lantern marked “甚” (Tremendously, meaning extreme) sways and nearly topples onto the crowd.
Yet the packed earth holds steady, and everyone cheers at how the stage could Withstand both the stomp and the lantern’s weight-Withstand pressure, Withstand extremes, just like 堪.
